INK-cubator Series: The Playwrights Festival

By The Black Creators Collective (other events)

5 Dates Through Apr 03, 2022

ABOUT ABOUT

Join The Black Creators Collective in partnership with WACO Theater Center as we present five new and dynamic works by five of LA's finest Black writers for our first Playwrights Festival as part of our new INK-cubator Series.

These exciting stories will explore:

Bridging the Gap: Cultural appropriation through the lens of Tik-Tok.

Mine for the Taking: a magical realism piece by Noro Otitigbe, depicting the generational trauma which ignites a teenage girl's quest for family healing.

The Night in Question: The series of events that led to the murder of Trayvon Martin.

The Flight of Emina & Zubaida: Defending one's legacy from an evil entity.

Kingwood Heights: The ever moving tide to grab hold of the American Dream.

Each reading is approximately 90 minutes, and will be followed by an audience talk, in conversation with the writer and an LA culture maker.

NOTE: Please allow ample time for parking and check in. Once you arrive at the theatre you will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test taken at least (48) hours prior to the start time of your event and to sign an online waiver. Masks are required. For more information about the theatre, visit the WACO Theater Center website.

This festival is brought to you by a generous donation from The Black Seed Foundation.
